In Arabia, Professor Aleya Abdallah Khattab is not just any specialist in German Studies, she is the most internationally renowned representative of her profession. Educated at the German School in Cairo she graduated with a PhD from the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg in Germany and has represented the field of German Studies all over the world in many different positions.

Business administration students graduating from the University of Mannheim are paid the highest salaries in the world just three years after completing their degree. This is one of the findings of the recent “Global-Masters-in-Management Ranking” recently published by the Financial Times.

A major exhibition “Ice Age – Art and Culture” opened in Stuttgart with a display of what are thought to be the world’s oldest known artworks. A second exceptional exhibition is also due to open in mid-October in Baden-Württemberg’s capital city and will show sensational artefacts found in the approximately 3,500-year old “Qatna royal burial chamber” in Syria which was first discovered in 2002. The German national railway company Deutsche Bahn AG and the University of Stuttgart intend to engage in intensive collaborative research in the future. The objective of the new cooperative venture will be to enhance safety standards and technology.

This summer Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences became the first institution of higher education in Germany to be awarded the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) badge of quality for the outstandingly good organisation of its student exchange programme. The label was awarded on the premise that the University publishes all its courses, course contents, university regulations and service offerings on the internet in English to make the institution more accessible for students from abroad.

The European School of Business (ESB) in Reutlingen is extending its popular binational business administration degrees with universities in Poland and the Netherlands, as well as more universities in the USA. This means that, beginning in the winter semester of 2009/2010, students at the ESB will be able to work on 20 degree courses towards an “International Management – Double Degree” in collaboration with institutions of higher education in eleven other countries: three universities in the USA or one in England, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Poland and the Netherlands.

Her grandfather once started the hospital in the town where Sonam Sharma was born: “In Dhanbad, Iharkhabd, it is – still today – difficult to get the medical care people need, because of the lack of facilities”, the very young graduate student says. Sonam characterizes herself as ambitious and efficient. She had already finished her Bachelor in Engineering at home in Bangalore and, now half way through her Master Course in Biomedical Engineering at Furtwangen University, the 23 year old student is fast approaching her goal: “Having gained more practice I want to go back and improve the health sector in my country.”
