The programme goes under the name of EuroSPIN (European Study Programm in Neuroinformatics) and is due to begin next year. more | | | | | | Top | | | | | | | | | Geothermal Power Research Centre in Karlsruhe  Geothermal power: energy from the depth of 3,000 metres under the Earth´s surface (©BMU/Rupert Oberhäuser) | | Mission: To secure heat and power from deep boreholes The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will be home to the State of Baden-Württemberg’s new geothermal power research centre. The new research centre brings together scientists with experience in the geothermal field working at 13 institutes in Karlsruhe and will also draw on the expertise of other research institutions and universities in south-west Germany, such as the University of Freiburg. The objective of the scientists is to extract heat stored deep in the earth for use in the generation of electricity and for heating purposes by drilling wells down to a depth of around 2,000 to 3,000 metres. more |
| | | | | | Top | | | | | | | | | Reutlingen University opens new center in India Interactive lectures from Reutlingen for 20 Indian universities Reutlingen University has opened a daughter institute in the Indian business metropolis of Mumbai. The objective is to encourage regular exchanges of German and Indian students and teaching staff as well as to support business by initiating business relationships between Germany and India. The partnership between the Economics Faculty at Reutlingen University (ESB Reutlingen) and the “SP Jain Institute of Management and Research” (SPJIMR) in Mumbai is supported by the European Union to the tune of 400,000 euros. The German Academic Exchange Service is promoting the exchange of researchers and students in the framework of its “A New Passage to India” programme. more | | | | | | Top | | | | | | | | | Ten year anniversary of the German-Chinese degree course in print and media technology Degree course offered in Stuttgart and Xian unprecedented anywhere else in the world A gathering of alumni will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the German-Chinese degree course in printing and media technology in Stuttgart on 11 December 2009. The partners of the dual degree are the Stuttgart Media University (HdM) and the Technical University of Xi’an/China. According to the responsible Dean, Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmann-Walbeck, the degree course is absolutely unique. The Bachelor’s degree course launched in 1999 has been extended in this winter semester by a Master’s degree course. more | | | | | | Top | | | | | | | | | Innovative development of thin-film solar cells on steel sheets ZSW Research Centre successful Baden-Württemberg’s Centre for Solar Power and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) has announced that it has successfully manufactured the world’s first fully-functional flexible thin-film solar cell on extremely thin steel sheeting. Steel sheeting is between two and three times cheaper than the conventional steel or plastic support panels used for flexible thin film photovoltaic to date.
